ATLANTA (April 28, 2026) — Atlanta Football Club (Atlanta FC), co-founded by former U.S. Men’s National Team captain Carlos Bocanegra, today announced its official launch, introducing a new approach to youth soccer development centered on structure, consistency, and individualized coaching.

Atlanta FC will initially field one team per age group at the U-8 through U-13 boys’ levels, each led by a dedicated coach, and will compete against Atlanta metro area teams as well as in local competitive tournaments. The limited teams for each age group and the one-team-per-coach model is designed to ensure consistent coaching, clear development pathways, and meaningful attention for every player—an intentional departure from traditional youth soccer models.

Bocanegra, who captained the U.S. Men’s National Team and played in two FIFA World Cups and later served as Vice President and Technical Director of MLS Cup-winning Atlanta United, brings more than two decades of experience at the highest levels of the game to the club’s vision and structure.

“Our vision is to change the culture of youth soccer in America by creating a more deliberate athlete-first environment for player development,” said Bocanegra, Atlanta FC Technical Director. “Too often in youth soccer, players are forgotten about, late developers can be pushed aside, and families don’t have a clear understanding of how their child is progressing. This club reflects everything I believe youth development should be.”
